Teaching Residency: Biology, Leadership Public Schools-Richmond
Interests: identity formation, trauma-informed teaching, resilience, college access, social justice, equity and empowerment through education
Quan immigrated to the United States from Vietnam and was the first member of his family to attend college. For his undergraduate degree, Quan concentrated in Human Evolutionary Biology with the intention of pursuing a career in medicine. However, through his work with the Boston Refugee Youth Enrichment (BRYE) program—where he taught and tutored immigrant and refugee children from all around the world—he fell in love with teaching. Through Harvard Teacher Fellows, he hopes to learn how to create socio-emotionally nurturing and empowering classrooms for students of color, incorporating trauma-informed teaching practices and restorative justice. Quan looks forward to sharing his love for learning and the life sciences with his students.
