A first-generation college graduate, Alicia found life in literature, tetherball, and the unconditional love of a single mother. She was also nourished by the commitment of several teachers and mentors. Inspired by these social justice educators, Alicia is invested in institutional equity, centering historically marginalized narratives in the classroom, and cultivating young readers in Denver during her residency year. She joins her older brother Andy in the teaching profession.
