Maya Park joins the Harvard Teacher Fellows after spending her undergraduate years studying history, with a focus in gender, sexuality, and race. For her HTF residency, she has the honor of teaching US History at Leadership Prep Bedford Stuyvesant Middle Academy in Brooklyn, New York. Maya wants her students to know that, in the face of adversity, they deserve love. She hopes to make her love visible to them in the form of fiercely high expectations. Maya is grateful to the HTF community for continually choosing generosity and joy in the face of such a challenging training process, and to her colleagues at Leadership Prep for never letting her forget what it feels like to be seen. Maya looks forward to learning alongside her seventh graders as they chart the origins of a nation born from radical inequality.
