The application for HTF Cohort 5 closed on November 4, 2019. Cohort 6 application information will be posted in Summer 2020.


Application Materials

Only Harvard College seniors and alumni are eligible to apply to Harvard Teacher Fellows. Those who have already earned their teaching license through UTEP are not eligible to apply to HTF-they may pursue an Ed.M through HGSE's Teacher Education Program. 

Applicants will be required to submit the following materials in the online application:

  1. Post-Secondary Transcript(s)

  2. Resume

  3. Two letters of recommendation: As part of the online application, you will be prompted to submit the name and contact information of your recommenders; they will receive an email with instructions as to how to submit their letter online.

    1. 1 letter from a Harvard College professor or instructor who can speak to your academic performance and capacity to excel in a master's program; and if possible, your grasp of the discipline area(s) for which you are applying

    2. 1 letter from a professor, instructor, supervisor, or administrator who can speak to your capacity to excel as a teacher and as a professional. 

  4. Personal statement that addresses how your personal and academic experiences have motivated and prepared you to teach in high-need secondary schools. Your statement should be double-spaced, minimum 11-point font, and a maximum of 1,000 words in length.

  5. Short Answer Responses (150-200 words) to the following prompts:

    1. Reflect on your role during an experience when you worked with a group or team.

    2. Reflect on an experience when you encountered an obstacle while working towards a goal.

  6. Discipline and Course Information

    1. Select each discipline you would be interested in teaching (English Language Arts, History/Social Studies, Math, Science).

    2. Rank each selected discipline in your order of preference.

    3. For each discipline you selected, complete the following:

      1. Describe your interest in teaching this discipline, as well as your general preparedness (150-200 words).

      2. List the specific college courses you've taken (including APs) that are relevant to this discipline, and provide a 1-2 sentence summary of the relevant content covered in each course.


All applicants will be required to participate in an interview with HTF Faculty. Interviews will be approximately one hour and held between November 18-22. During the week of November 11, all applicants will receive communication regarding scheduling their interview.
